Can your teeth move out of place even if you are wearing your retainer FAITHFULLY?

I got my braces off a month ago. I got bonded retainers on the top and bottom front teeth. I was also given a removable Hawley retainer for the top teeth and told to wear it only at night (8 hours). But my teeth started moving out of place! A space began forming between my two front teeth and one of my teeth that was originally very high up and out of place in my gums has started slowly moving upward again. How is this possible? If I%26#039;m wearing a retainer, isn%26#039;t that supposed to retain my teeth? I visited the ortho for a checkup and the space didn%26#039;t seem to bother him - but it bothers me! It%26#039;s quite a noticeable difference. The other tooth started moving after I saw him for the space problem.

He said something about adult teeth (I%26#039;m 25) being more troublesome sometimes and that I may have bit on something that slightly moved the upper bonded retainer out of place. Did I just fork over $6000 for nothing? Are there other retainer options or is there no solution to my problem?

That completely sucks. Is it possible you grind or clench your teeth and night, because if you do, you could be making your teeth shift. Have you discussed that possibility with your ortho? He could get you a Brux guard. I thought if you wore your retainer, your teeth would be fine.

Good luck.
Reply:yes
Reply:They should be able to address shifting teeth INCLUDED in the price you%26#039;ve paid. Ask for the attached retainers if that will make the orthodontist feel better about being sure you%26#039;re wearing them. You%26#039;ve paid for it, now (very nicely) demand it.
